Dutch Language Training
Dutch-language training before departure
SkillShift can integrate Dutch-language preparation into an international recruitment trajectory, so candidates begin learning before they relocate. The programme is particularly developed around healthcare, where communication and professional language are critical, but Dutch-language preparation may also be relevant for other sectors.

Why wait until arrival?
The recruitment, immigration and DMW process takes time. SkillShift can use this period for structured language preparation.
- The candidate arrives better prepared
- Communication with colleagues can start earlier
- Integration becomes easier
- Professional vocabulary can be developed
- Employers can monitor progress before arrival
- Healthcare candidates can prepare toward recognition-related language requirements
Language training does not shorten official government processing times.
From general Dutch to language on the work floor
General Dutch
Vocabulary, grammar and everyday communication as a foundation.
Speaking and listening
Practical conversations and workplace communication.
Reading and writing
Messages, basic workplace documentation and written instructions.
Workplace culture
Communication style, hierarchy, asking questions, feedback, and appointments and expectations.
Sector-specific Dutch
For healthcare, for example: patient and client communication, body and health terminology, reporting, and conversations with colleagues and relatives.
Assessment and progress
Regular evaluation, defined learning goals, and progress reporting where this is part of the employer package.

Healthcare
Preparation for language requirements in Dutch healthcare
Foreign-trained healthcare professionals can be required to demonstrate Dutch-language proficiency as part of professional-recognition procedures. SkillShift can prepare selected candidates toward the level required for the intended recognition route.
The SkillShift language course is preparation. The competent Dutch authorities determine which formal language evidence is accepted for a recognition or BIG procedure.
Speaking, listening, reading and writing are all covered.

Service models
Dutch-language preparation can be deployed in different ways, depending on the employer's needs.
- Integrated into a full recruitment trajectory
- Delivered to a selected cohort of candidates
- Tailored to specific employer requirements
- Combined with sector-specific preparation
The primary audience is employers organising international intake; this is not a standalone consumer course.
